Instagram Hidden Words

As the sole designer on Instagram's Hidden Words feature, I led the end-to-end design process to create a robust filtering system that empowers users to avoid harmful content. The feature allows users to automatically filter message requests and comments containing offensive words using both predefined and custom word lists, giving vulnerable users more control over their experience without blocking all communications. 

The redesigned experience includes a clear educational onboarding flow, streamlined settings hierarchy, and a simplified custom filtering experience. The project established a foundation for future safety features and demonstrated Instagram's commitment to protecting users from hate speech and abuse.
